Rosie Loves Art

Rosie is likely looking at one of our dogs--Mitzy or Lilly on the stairs going to our 2nd floor. Although, she does like art for art's sake.

If you visit Creative Counseling Milwaukee's second floor offices at 2266 North Prospect Avenue, Milwaukee, you'll likely see the sculpture that Rosie is sitting on. It's a bouncy horse with clay and acrylics, mounted on plywood. The sculpture is called Arjuna's Horse, Sea Horse Rising. Arjuna is one of Indra's sons, and I first learned of him in when I read the Bhagavad Gita.

I don't know if Arjuna ever rode a blue horse, but that's what I imagined when reading that story. The bouncy horse itself spent many years in Lake Michigan until one day when it washed up on McKinley Beach, which is near our offices. The plastic horse was dark gray from being in the depths and faded by the sun when I found it. He was missing his tail and both forelegs and it felt right to restore him. You'll note that the saddle and horse himself are highly detailed. I only highlighted what was there. I like that the artist who designed the mold took care to make it as realistic as they could, so the youthful riders might feel that their horse was alive in the world.
